As we know, it’s so important that we take care of both our mental and physical wellbeing in the current climate due to Covid-19.

These unprecedented times will impact on an abundance of collaborative personal issues such as financial implications, triggers leading to periods of stress, increased anxieties and of course our families.

We will experience frustrations, boredom and loneliness from having to isolate and shield to prevent and minimise any potential risks. It’s imperative to remember it’s okay to feel like this and like many some will react differently, however these feelings will pass with time.

Having to stay at home will certainly be very difficult but just remember that you’re protecting yourself as well as protecting others in our communities. It’s vital we must adhere to the government guidelines to fight this pandemic.

There are things you can do maintain a positive mental wellbeing during lockdown.

1: Try planning practical tasks such as shopping and prescription deliveries.

2: Stay connected with family and friends to maintain healthy relationships.

3: Try talking about your feelings, your worries with those whom you trust.

4: Look after your body by eating healthy with a balanced diet, good regular exercise and try drinking plenty of water.

5: Try managing your anxieties, overwhelming thoughts and things that seem out of your control, try tackling your worries and challenging them by making time for them where possible.

6: Try to shift your focus and avoid watching the news. And try to continue enjoying the things you like to do. Try to relax and distract your mind’s negatives.

Finally try to get a good night sleep each night with regular patterns. Spend a short time before settling down by listening to soft gentle music, or read a chapter from a book, or use simple breathing techniques.

Mark Robbins is a 48 year old family man who for the past thirteen years has worked in Mental Health supporting others.
He set up a Mental Health support hub to encourage men to speak out about personal struggles, trying to break the stigma attached, and emphasise that there’s no shame in reaching out. He also gives awareness talks in the community to highlight the importance of raising awareness of mental health issues.
