Redcar Town Ladies 2

Hartlepool Utd Women 3

Spirited Redcar Town came from two down to level against the runaway NE Women’s Premier League leaders Hartlepool before being caught by a late sucker punch in a cracking encounter at Mo Mowlem Memorial Park in Dormanstown.

The visitors got off to a blistering start and caught Redcar napping to score the opener after just four minutes and then launched a ferocious barrage and had the home side penned in their own box

The pressure told as confident Hartlepool quickly increased their lead with a second from their lively number nine.

It looked like Hartlepool would ram home their advantage as they dominated possession and won corner after corner and the frantic Redcar defence seemed ready to crack.

But they weathered the storm, settled and started to push forward and after a couple of dangerous strikes they pulled one back before the break as a striker connected with a cross across the box.

The second half started a lot brighter for Redcar who scored an equaliser early in the half with a lobbed shot from the left hand side of the box over the Hartlepool keeper into the far top corner of the net.

Table-topping Hartlepool were stung into action and regained the upper-hand and several times went close and though they had scored as a shot came down off the bar and looked like it had bounced over the line but it wasn’t given. Then another shot ricocheted of the bar back into the box but it was cleared by the Redcar defence.

It looked like Redcar would hold on for a draw but Hartlepool sealed victory with a shot inside the box late on.
