To celebrate International Make Music Day and to put a smile on peoples’ faces, Tees Valley Music Service (TVMS) marked the event with ‘pop-up’ Flash Mobs across the combined authorities.
Four key songs were performed, starting with the official Make Music Day anthem for 2021, Stand By Me by Ben E. King.
Members of the TVMS Management Team formed a 10-piece band and performed live with children from local Primary Schools.
Manager, Susan Robertson described it as “a feel-good singalong and an opportunity for us to celebrate the power of music, how integral it is to all our lives and how it can help us feel better about ourselves and what we’ve all gone through over the past eighteen months.”
Originally planned to occur in Town Centres throughout the region, as restrictions remain in place for a further four weeks to the previously anticipated lift on the 21st June, Susan made the decision to re-locate the Flash Mobs.
She explains, “Though there is space within the government guidance to make a short public performance like this work – providing safety protocols are adhered to – the decision was taken by TVMS with consideration of the councils, schools, and ourselves in mind, to relocate the pop-up events out of the public town centres and into a number of school playgrounds.
“The children that had practised for the events on Monday were very excited to receive us and local councillors, mayors and dignitaries are also making an appearance and showing their support.”
