The Boys’ Brigade is the oldest uniformed youth organisation in the world and a local group has been active in Marton, across Teesside and the UK for over 45 years.
The 17th Teesside Boys’ Brigade Company meets every Friday evening (except during school holidays) at St Andrew’s United Reformed Church, Cypress Rd, Marton, Middlesbrough TS7 8PD. Its next meeting is Friday 10th September 2021.
The company was formed in January 1974 with an incredible 108 boys attending the inaugural meeting. Today, Colin Martin (who joined the company as a boy at its first meeting in 1974) is the current captain holding the post from 1992.
The company does the full programme of badge work in all sections and has been successful in members obtaining Queen’s Badge on a regular basis. The Boys’ Brigade have always been particularly active in outdoor expedition work, taking part in BB National level competitions, the annual Cleveland Hike and holds a summer camp annually. It also has a bugle and drum band which meets to practice at 8pm on Tuesday evenings.
The Company is split as follows:
Anchor Boys (School Years 1 to 3) meets Fridays between 6.15pm and 7.30pm, led by Elliot Holmes and Lee Hodson
Junior Section (School Years 4 to 6) meets Fridays between 6.15pm and 7.30pm, led by June Drummond and Michael Scaife

Joining the Boys’ Brigade teaches young people some extremely valuable skill sets setting them in good stead to become extraordinary citizens of Teesside and the wider world. Marton Community Centre Group recognise this valuable local resource and are delighted to help these very special youths to thrive. A donation from the community centre will help towards costs of equipment, activities and training events.
