It’s time to wrap up warm this weekend and head to Middlesbrough town centre for a jam-packed line-up of free festive entertainment.

The family fun starts on Sunday 28th November with a Magical Middlesbrough Christmas spectacular.

The line-up features the parade, Christmas Lights Switch On, more outdoor film screenings, the chance to see the brand new festive window in House of Fraser and a host of Christmas characters.

The Magical Middlesbrough Parade will see a visit from Santa and his reindeer.

Local school and community groups from across Middlesbrough are also taking part.

The new route starts and finishes at Middlesbrough Town Hall and takes in Corporation Road, Linthorpe Road and Grange Road, before returning along Albert Road, presenting plenty of opportunities to wave at Santa and his festive friends.

Following the parade, visitors can return to Centre Square to see the grand finale – the Christmas lights switch on at 4.30pm.

Hosted by TFM radio, the cast of Peter Pan from the Middlesbrough Theatre pantomime will also take to the stage to join in the Christmas fun.

Big Festive Day Out event timings:

  • 11am: The Grinch – outdoor film screening
  • Noon: Festive Fairground opens
  • 1.30pm: The Muppet Christmas Carol – outdoor film screening
  • 3pm: Magical Middlesbrough Parade
  • 4.30pm: Christmas Lights Switch On
  • The festive fairground will also be open in Centre Square until 6pm.

Councillor Mieka Smiles, Middlesbrough Deputy Mayor and Executive member for Culture & Communities, says, “It’s so brilliant to have Christmas events back in Middlesbrough and we’re definitely starting the festive fun in style this weekend!

“There’s so much to see and do and people can get together with all their family and friends to share in the Christmas cheer.

“We’ve got lots more events coming up as we head into December. We can’t wait to see the town centre looking amazing and visitors and shoppers finding all they need for gifts, family fun and nights out with friends too.”
