Middlesbrough 1 – 0 Coventry City
How good does it feel when Boro win!? And as the people of Teesside braved the high winds of Storm Malik to flock to the Riverside Stadium on a sunny but ever so bracing and chilly January afternoon, we popped along before kick off to grab some super pics for our gallery.
First stop was Base Camp to check out the Boro Shirt Museum exhibition.
Base Camp, which is located in the heart of Middlesbrough’s Historic Quarter (under the A66), hosts the brilliant pre-match Ali Brownlee Social Club where Boro fans and away supporters alike are welcomed into a warm and friendly environment, often entertained by the awesome Mike McGrother, the Infant Hercules men’s choir and the Ironopolettes women’s choir. Base Camp has a reputation for great food and on the menu today was Match Day Mac N Cheese. Find out more here.
In the exhibition, fans perused a carefully set out display of shirts, memorabilia and programmes from The Robson Years including a Coca-Cola Cup Final Runners-up Medal from 1997, Juninho’s Number 10 shirt, and the programme from Stephen Pears’ Testimonial Match.
Walking from Base Camp past Middlesbrough College to the Riverside Stadium, we were lucky to stop and chat to Steph who was volunteering with Teesside Dementia Link Services. Steph takes her therapy dogs to regular cafe sessions in Yarm and Stockton. Find out more about Teesside Dementia Services on Facebook here.
It was also great to catch up with Rob Nichols, editor of Fly Me To The Moon, and Gary Philipson of BBC Radio Tees who was hosting the brilliant as always and energetic Fan Zone.
Next up we stopped to find out more about the Middlesbrough Food Bank collection at the north stand. Supporters are doing a great job of collecting donations for this much-needed service. Find out more here.
At the end of the day, it was a great result for the Boro and a great afternoon all round.
As we tentatively start to head out of the pandemic, let’s celebrate what’s happening here in the Tees area more than ever – send us your pics, videos, stories and ideas. We’d love to hear from you. Email us here.
